Connect Books employee raises £4500 for Ebola crisis at local Norwich book fair

An employee from Norwich-based Connect Books hosted a stall at the Norwich Global Village Market last weekend, to raise money for the Ebola crisis in West Africa.

Yaima Ballester, a Cataloguer of bibliographic data, organised the book sale to raise much-needed funds for ‘Doctors without Borders’, a network of volunteers that help people worldwide where the need is greatest.

This is the second book fair Yaima has arranged with the charity – the first, in November, raised almost £3000 in just two days. When Connect Books heard of Yaima’s amazing efforts, they wanted to help Yaima with her fundraising and the fight against the Ebola virus.

The company donated a collection of 150 children’s books which Yaima sold at the Village Market on Friday and Saturday of last week, as well as homemade cakes and raffle tickets.

Andy Swarbrick, HR Director of Connect Books said: “We are proud to have supported Yaima with her campaign, and would like to congratulate her for all her hard work.”

The event raised a further £1450 for ‘Doctors without Borders’, and Yaima said: “We are very thankful for the children’s books – everyone loved them! All together we have raised nearly £4500 for Ebola – we are very proud of our contribution and want to thank all the people that supported our cause.”

Yaima used the company’s ‘Volunteer Time’ policy to run her stall on Friday – this scheme allows employees to take up to five days paid leave a year to take part in volunteering or charity activities.
