Connect Group PLC raise almost £1500 for Macmillan Cancer Support

Monday 6th October 2014

Last week Connect Group PLC joined thousands of people across the UK as they took part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Staff got involved across all three of Connect Group’s divisions – Connect News & Media, Connect Books and Connect Education & Care – and collectively they raised almost £1,500 for the charity, with the pennies still rolling in.

One of the most successful coffee mornings was held at Connect Group’s Head Office on Kembrey Park, Swindon, which raised a total of £310. As well as selling cakes, staff did a sweepstake and held a raffle, where the top prize was a completed 2014 Brazil World Cup sticker book.

Connect Group even invited representatives from Macmillan to join their coffee morning and draw their raffle in the afternoon.

Macmillan’s Fundraising Manager for Wiltshire, Steve Goodrick was delighted by the invitation and said: “We are extremely grateful to staff at Connect Group - we want to make sure no one has to face cancer alone, but we can’t do it without the amazing people who fundraise for us.”

As part of the coffee morning Smiths News, Connect Group’s largest company, were offering Head Office staff a free cup of coffee with every cake purchased as an extra incentive to buy a cake.
