When it comes to giving something back, we support colleagues by providing time off to volunteer, by providing the volunteering opportunities or by offering financial assistance to help make a difference in the communities they serves. We also have an internal community blog that shares colleagues’ charitable involvement and promotes the support available to them.

Colleague involvement is at the heart of our programme and we believe it’s important our people feel supported in their chosen charitable activities. We have helped to support so many projects – from volunteering in schools and helping out at the local allotments, to fundraising for charities big and small. Here at Connect Group, you can rely on the people to show their support and also inspire others to get involved too.

Charitable partnerships

We support a range of charities and good causes, encouraging active involvement and contributions to the wider community. As well as making regular donations to our corporate charities, Whizz-Kidz and Cancer Research UK through the Pennies from Heaven payroll giving scheme, we work with the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) to provide a further payroll giving scheme where tax efficient donations can be made directly to a charity of choice.

In 2016, Connect Group launched ‘Pass It On’, initially set up as a Christmas campaign which encouraged colleagues to donate winter clothing and sleeping bags to help rough sleepers, homeless and vulnerable people. During 2017 colleagues from across the business handed out over 6000 donated winter items, alongside 800 Jack’s beans coffee’s to homeless people across the country. Working with industry partners to promote fundraising and activity – many kindly donated further supplies for us to give out. From January 2018, our Pass It On campaign will run throughout the year and will provide the focus for colleague fundraising and activity.

Our own Jack’s Beans coffee company also donates 5p from every Christmas coffee cup sold to small, local charities and hostels.

Community Link-Up

Connect Group is committed to supporting colleagues with charitable projects and community initiatives, and encourages participation through an active charity programme.

Community Link-Up promotes fundraising and volunteering opportunities across the company, as well as supporting individuals with their own events for charities of their choice. We provide some organised and funded opportunities, it’s important we offer whatever help our colleagues need to get involved with the causes important to them.

Every year Connect Group organises flagship events for all to take part in and over the last few years have included sponsored walks, runs and bike rides. We also hold an annual football and badminton tournament which is very popular – new to the programme is our health week initiative which looks at ways we can be healthy in the work place – whether that’s keeping hydrated whilst out on deliveries or doing some chair yoga whilst sat at your desk – everyone can get involved.

Our colleagues play an important part in helping to develop the programme and think up new initiatives. It’s a fantastic way of bringing people together, helping consolidate working relationships but also benefitting so many communities and charities. To date, Community Link-Up has raised over £600,000 and helped over 220 different charities.

Volunteering & Citizenship

Connect Group colleagues can apply for up to five days off per year to volunteer, freeing them to work with a charity of their choice. That could be five days in a row to take part in a big event or small chunks of their time to volunteer on a regular basis.

The time can be spent supporting whatever project they wish - our only stipulation is that they work with a registered charity.

We believe this scheme helps colleagues improve their work-life balance and gain satisfaction from giving something back to society. But the real winners are the charities who benefit from the time and dedication of our people, who have the commitment and energy to support them in a variety of ways.
